Controlled
Product Identification and Classification
All
items in the United States, whether made in the U.S. or made
outside of the U.S. using U.S. technology are subject to United
States export/import regulations. Items developed or
modified for the military and other controlled items are subject
to the U.S. Department of State's International Traffic in Arms
Regulations (ITAR).
Items not controlled by ITAR, such as commercial and dual use
items, are subject to the U.S. Department of Commerce's Export
Administration Regulations (EAR).
Each set of regulations have a list of items that are controlled
and may require a license. ITAR includes the Munitions List
classifications, while EAR includes the Commodity Control List
and ECCN numbers (classification).
